In your Parent Communication folder are two Scholastic Reading flyers.
Encouraging reading is one of the most important things we can do to help our kiddos succeed. It can be tough finding the right books to keep them interested, which is why I am SO EXCITED that our class will be participating in Scholastic Reading Club this school year.
With Scholastic Reading Club:
- Every book you buy earns FREE Books for our classroom!
- You can choose from handpicked, grade- and reading-level-specific books for your child
- You'll find the best values on a variety of formats, including eBooks
Each month, your child will bring home Reading Club flyers. Together you can choose from books hand-selected by teachers and experts, and then order online (RECOMMENDED) or by returning your order form and payment to me.
I'd also love some help growing our classroom Reading Club. If you'd like to help out, please let me know! I'm excited to get our class reading! Thanks for your support, and Happy Reading :)
Also, in your child's homework folder should be two things:
1. Alpha Poem book
2. "Lovely Letter"
To clarify, any papers in the "assignment" side of the homework folder are to be brought back to school. Any papers in the "work" side can be kept at home. For example, the name writing with sheet protectors and September calendar are to be kept at home for practicing :)
Alpha Poems (work section: keep at home)
In an effort to save paper, I made the Alpha Poems book for you instead of sending home a poem a week. We will be learning a new letter about every week, and these are the poems we will be learning. This poem book is to be left at home for practicing the songs.
They can color the pictures, and I recommend them doing their best to find all the letters within the poem that has that letter.
Ex) If we are working on the letter "A", highlight/circle all the "a's" in the poem for that given week.
"Lovely Letter" (assignment: bring back to school)
There should be a letter in the assignment pocket of your child's folder. This letter is in reference to September 11th as a BIG day in history.
I would recommend/encourage educating your child briefly on what that day was about. Then answer that question on the back (or another sheet of paper), and bring to school to be put in their scrapbook for the end of the year.
We will be doing "lovely letters" throughout the year and thought it would be a nice communication time for you and your child. Feel free to have your child trace the words and draw a picture should they choose :)
Thank you for all of your hard work, time, and support with your child's education. It means the world to me that you are taking an active role and communicating. We have great kiddos, and I'm so proud of all of them. Have a wonderful rest of your Wednesday, and see you on time and ready to learn tomorrow :)
Warmest Smiles,
Miss Fiscus
