She contacted me recently to let me know she was in town for a couple of weeks. She offered to take time out of her busy schedule to come visit our class. She had published a children's book and has been excited to share. As a dedicated and passionate educator herself, her natural ability to connect with my TK kiddos was magical to watch.
She taught us some sign language (we learned how to sign the colors of the rainbow!), played some delightful tunes on Miss Fiscus' keyboard (like the Fur Elise!) and sang and played her own ukulele (while we danced, sang, and played along our own instruments with her.) She also read us her "MUST-HAVE" book that she published, The Tale of Penny the Poppy.
Synopsis of book:
PENNY IS A CALIFORNIA POPPY FLOWER WHO LEAVES HER HILLSIDE HOME IN SEARCH OF WAVES AND ADVENTURE. SOMEWHERE SOUTH OF THE BORDER, PENNY'S DREAMS ARE REALIZED AS SHE EMBRACES THE UNKNOWN IN SEARCH OF HER BLISS. A STORY OF FEMALE EMPOWERMENT, FRIENDSHIP, AND ADVENTURE, THIS IS A MUST-READ FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES AND GENDERS! PENNY THE POPPY SHARES THE RESOUNDING MESSAGE THAT OUR HIGHEST PURPOSE CAN BE FOUND WHEN WE FOLLOW OUR DREAMS WITH FAITH, LOVE, AND JOY.
We greatly appreciate Miss Mary for coming to our class. We had so much fun and learned a great deal. Miss Mary's love, passion, joy, and sunshine smiles that she brought with her will continue to shine within us, and we hope she will be back again! Thanks, Miss Mary :)
