Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This week we are learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We have been reading stories about him, videos, and we learned a mini speech that we all recited in class. Please have them show you. They should say...
"Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream that one day everyone would be friends no matter the color of their skin." (You can help guide them to refresh their memory. We made hand motions to go with it. You can ask them to teach it to you!) :)
Homework Suggestion/Recommendation:
I encourage you to have a discussion with your child about Dr. King. We explained the importance and impact he had, and why we have next Monday off. We wrote and drew what our dream was in class (which you can ask them to share what their dream is), and I invite and encourage you to share YOUR dream(s) with them.
Blossom the Amaryllis
Today, Miss Ali our garden mom, came in and taught us about our new class plant: Blossom the Amaryllis. The kiddos cast a vote, and they named it Blossom :)
We made PREDICTIONS, which they learned were "educated guesses." We predicted our amaryllis would be orange. We are going to be taking care of our plant, watering it everyday. It will be the Bonsall Bear's job. We will also be in charge of measuring Blossom.
Homework Suggestion/Recommendation:
Make predictions about the weather. Ask your child what does prediction mean, and what they predict will happen...maybe while you are reading a story, watching TV, etc.
We will have a discussion in class for those who choose to participate :)
Thanks for taking an active role in your child's education. Lots of fun, and more to come!
Sunshine Smiles,
Miss Fiscus
